Swords for Every Taste

The reasons people collect swords are as varied as the swords themselves. Some people only collect replicas of swords from different periods in history, such as the Middle Ages or the American Civil War, or from certain cultures, such as the Japanese katana and wakizashi. Others prefer swords that have a connection to some part of pop culture such as the very cool and retro Sword of Omens from the Thundercats cartoon series. I fall somewhere in between. While I love movie replicas and swords from different video games and cartoons and would buy them in a heartbeat, my true love seems to be for historical weapons from the dark ages through to the beginning of the Renaissance. My absolute favorites are the Viking swords. Even though they are simple looking swords, they are just about flawless. The blade length is ideal, and the balance, thanks to the weighted pommel, is perfect. Still, everyone is different. While I love the Norse swords, you might be head over heels for rapiers. That’s the beauty of collecting swords; there’s something for everyone.
